It was odd as it was on a road going out of the city. Underneath an advertising hoarding periodically flicked between three alternate slogans, forming the parallel yet accidental statements …. ‘Welcome to sheffield’ – lets go to work, ‘Welcome to sheffield’ – more tv to watch right now than anywhere else, ‘Welcome to sheffield’ – say hello to the new iphone. Collectively these statements seem to sum up some of the currents flowing through the city and perhaps form the basis for a new understanding between work, leisure and commodity …..
